PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING BEFORE BIDDING. You are looking at a handmade silver bar weighing 1.264 Troy Ounces and cast in solid .9 45 silver. As you can see I got the silver a bit too hot and it literally sucked every molecule of oxygen out of the graphite mold I used ; the bottom of the bar has numerous , shallow air voids. The bar is actually quite smooth on the bottom and si ts perfectly flat- it just has a bunch of minor valleys from the super-heated air bubbles that got trapped beneath the molten metal. I assure you the bar itself is solid and does not have any other voids besides the ones you can see at the bottom surface. I annealed the bar just to be sure it would last forever (or until melted down again). This is a very high-grade sterling blen d of 94.5% pure silver and 5.5% pure copper. As you noticed I have set a starting bid which is the minimum amount I can sell for . There is absolutely no profit for me if the bar sells for the starting bid. I spend more money to produce my bars than anyone else. Other Sellers melt scrap sterling to make their bars, but I demand a higher quality standard of myself. Melted scrap has a lot of contaminants in it; most handmade sterling bars are made from old jewelry, belt buckles, candlestick holders, knife handles and, yes, old 90% silver coins. You really can't know the purity of those bars because you don't know what went in them. In fact, the Maker of those bars doesn't even know how pure they really are because he/she is simply trusting that the stamps or hallmark s are accurate . I have seen many items marked sterling or 925 that were less pure or even completely bogus. Acid testing each piece is a good practice but there is no way to distinguish .900 silver from .925- they both show the same red color. MY BARS ARE NOT MELTED SCRAP. I refine all of my scrap into .999 pure silver and then I make my own alloys. I know what the purities of my bars are. Furthermore, I have formal training in metalsmithing and adhere to only time-honored and proven methods when fabricating my bars. Also, please be aware that I pay for more than just the silver when I make these bars; the acid for refining, distilled water, the graphite molds that wear out after 20 uses and need to be replaced, the MAPP gas used to melt the silver 3 different times before the bar is finished (one melt after refining, one melt when blending the alloy and a final melt when casting the bar), the acid for pickling, the tools needed, the sandpapers and polishes, etc. ALL ADD UP. So I must ask you to help with the cost of production, but all of my time, knowledge, skill, labor and craftsmanship are absolutely free! ABOUT THE PICTURES: The first 6 pics are the bar for sale/auction. The next pic is scrap silver as I refine it, then a plate of nearly pure elemental silver after chemical refining and before electrolytic refining, then a typical proportioning of pure silver and copper to make an alloy, then a bag of alloyed silver and, finally, just a pic of some .940 bars I made a while back (just so you know this isn't my first rodeo).
