Up for auction is an original Samurai Wakizashi. This sword has been in my collection for some time. The scabbard (saya) is in rough shape having cracks and chips throughout however it has a very nice cross hatch design that matches the gold inlay design on the hand guard (tsuba). The scabbard fits the sword well leading me to believe the blade, scabbard and hand guard have been together for a long time and are original to this blade. The handle (tsuka) fits the blade and the wrap is still in good shape but missing the end cap (kashira). I am unsure if this handle is original to the blade. The blade is a very nice old Hira-Zukuri type (no ridge line) of the Azuchi-Momoyama or Edo era (1575 to 1868). It is a deeply curved blade measuring approx. 15 1/2" with an over all length with handle of approx. 22 1/4". The temper line appears to be a clover leaf choji. A beautiful Stylized design has been carved into one side of the blade. The blade IS SIGNED! Over all this is a very nice ORIGINAL SAMURAI BLADE that is in good shape with fittings that could use some restoration or display it as is as I have done for years. I was going to have this expertly polished and restore the fittings but other projects have taken over so my loss your gain! I have been collecting Samurai blades for 24 years and I guarantee this is an original Samurai sword/wakizashi, not a modern repro or Chinese junk.
