Turritella Agate Rough Rock Slab Fossil Shell Stone Turritella is small agatized shells found in seams. It comes from Wyoming. It is from the Miocene Epoch and is about 24 million years old. It takes a good polish and is very interesting! Turritella is a genus of very enduring and widespread marine gastropods (aka "snails") characterized by turreted, cone shaped shells exhibiting long slender whorls with spiral ribbing. Ancestors of contemporary Turritella have left countless shells in Earth's oceans for hundreds of millions of years, all the way back to the Lower Permian Period of the Paleozoic Era. A great many of these Turritella shells became fossilized as these marine sediments lithified into limestones, and some of this rock was subsequently silicated and agatized, producing this beautiful material. This slab is shown wet. This one has some small, natural surface cracks that can easily be cut around. It is 8 inches by 3.25 inches and 8 mm thick. It weighs .76 lbs. #4 Metaphysical Properties: Turitella is known as a protective stone.
