Turtle Baby by Edith Parsons

Sold For:

Sold Date: 11/18/2007
Channel: Online Auction
Source: eBay

This auction presents a 12 1/2" tall resin reproduction figurine of the "Turtle Baby". The original is on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art and was sculpted by Edith Barretto Stevens Parsons (1878-1956). The artist sculpted the original piece between 1910-1916. The original Turtle Baby stands 41 inches tall and is a bronze water fountain. It can now be viewed in the Exterior Garden Court of the Cleveland Museum of Art. It was a gift to the museum from the owners of the piece in 1923. The Turtle Baby up for auction is a very well detailed resin miniature of the original. While he will not spout water like the original, he will certainly be a focal point of any area he is displayed in. The base is inscribed "The Cleveland Museum of Art - ALVA."
