I'm listing several wonderful and rare "audible antiques" this week, so make sure to check out all of my other auctions after you've read about this one. This is the nicest Tuska split panel set I've ever owned or offered. It comes with 3 brass base, tipped, labeled RCA Radiotrons (a type 200 detector tube and two type 201 amplifier tubes, all of which have good emissions) and is ready to "plug and play," provided you have a regulated DC power supply, a longwire outdoor antenna, and a working knowledge of how to operate a ca. 1920's battery radio. The early 225 is completely different from the later version and is among the most collectible Tuska radios of the 20's. It comprises a type 224 tuner (the left panel) and a type 226 two-stage amplifier (the right panel). Both panels are housed in a single cabinet, with connectors running between the tuner outputs and the amplifier inputs. As you can see in the photographs, the condition of this radio is astounding, all the more so if you're familiar with the model and the condition in which it's typically found. The bakelite panels are both excellent, with no chips, cracks or gouges and nearly perfect original lettering throughout. The dials and knobs are likewise near mint, with no chips, cracks or faded nomenclature. The hardware is original (including all of the binding posts and connectors), and the panel screws are all present and all original. Inside the chassis is pristine, the wiring is straight and original, the audio transformers are near mint and original (a wisp of surface oxidation on the edge of the plates, but that can be wiped off with some simichrome of similar polish), the tuner is near mint and original and tube sockets are near mint and original. In short, everything is...original and just about near mint. Both audio transformers are good and Ohm out properly, and the radio works extremely well, pulling in dozens of stations day and night and amplifying them with considerable volume into a horn loudspeaker. The cabinet, like the radio and amp housed within it, is beatiful and original, with its original finish, an outstanding original Tuska lid decal, and the original Tuska ID plate. T's a tiny chip in the upper left front corner of the lid, but otherwise the lid and cabinet are excellent throughout, with some light wispy marks and t but nothing significant. Both original lid latches still present and both original latch screws, too.Although this set was manufactured in 1922, its circuit and design are reminiscent of the earliest regenerative radios, those dating back to the late teens. Its primitive appearance only underscores this fact, and its ability to play as well as it displays makes it a key acquisition prospect for any high end collection of wireless gear.
