This machine is like one of my children - it has been VERY well taken care of and I think it shows in the small details. I am really having a hard time letting it go, but I have to....Twilight Zone is my absolute all-time favorite pinball machine, hands down. I purchased this machine 11 years ago from Daina Pettit - Mr. Pinball himself, the man that operates the Mr. Pinball website, author of the Pinball List & Price Guide and also runs the rec.games.pinball FAQ. It has been in my smoke-free home ever since. Daina did a beautiful job of going through the machine and not only restoring it to collector-quality condition, but also adding some nice touches and preventative fixes. He added gumballs to the gumball machine that are the size of pinballs, which looks much better than the examples I usually see on the market. You will notice that the rubbers are the same color as the ones the game originally shipped with (that are shown in the promotional flyer). This is important, because I see a lot of these machines with Black rubbers on them; this is not only a cosmetic difference, but also affects gameplay. The different colors of rubbers have different hardness/bounce from one another. This machine has had every detail considered to make sure it plays the way it was intended to from the factory. Daina added a piece of shielding next to the "Magna Flip" plastic on the mini playfield to protect it, since this is a commonly broken piece. This plastic already had a small split underneath the right rivet, but I didn't have him replace it. You can see in the photos that he also added ventilation holes to the clock housing to prevent overheating (the entire clock assembly was completely new inside and out when he did this). He knows more about pinball machines than just about anyone I know, and it shows in the incredible work he did to this machine restoration! He stripped it down to the bare playfield (which is in excellent condition), then re-assembled it, cleaning and reinforcing every piece, one by one. He had 2 of these machines at the time; both were already in great shape but I got the pick of the litter and he went to work on the restoration. I waited nearly 6 months for him to finish this machine, and it was worth the wait. Since I have owned this machine, the ONLY technician that has ever laid hands on it is Ray Johnson, owner of Action Pinball in Salt Lake City, UT. Ray is one of the most respected people in the business and the only technician I trust with my machines. His restored machines are exceptionally beautiful and they are sold throughout the country, usually fetching about DOUBLE their ebay values because collectors know that Ray is the best around. The week that I bought this machine, Ray installed a remote battery backup in the head assembly so t would be no chance of battery acid leaking onto the boards. He recently went through this machine to make sure it is in top selling condition, replaced all rubbers, waxed the playfield, checked all lights and flashers, wiring harnesses, etc. Ray rebuilt the flippers completely 2 1/2 years ago and did an amazing job - they are factory perfect. He put on brand new legs and leg bolts at the same time. Ray has made sure this machine is always in top condition, playing flawlessly. This machine has the updated home-use ROMs in it, version 9.4. The Dot Matrix Display is bright and vibrant, with absolutely NO burnt out pixels. The translite is in great shape. The pinballs are 2 months old and have been replaced every year to keep the playfield protected against pitted balls. The Powerball is a bit Gray, which is normal on Twilight Zones, but can be buffed back to White.
