Due to the plate pin with high voltage and the socket inside not enough space for insulation, the shunt resistor very close to plate-pin (high voltage).In this situation, it may cause spark inside the socket to damage you amp. You should make a clever choice. For your consideration is a “ Twin Tube Bias Matching Meter”. This is a “must have” for all guitar players with tube amplifiers. This bias meter is designed for amplifiers with 8 Pin power output tubes. Your guitar amplifier sounds good only when the bias current is adjusted to the optimal current level (ma - milliamps). This digital bias meter reads from 0 to 100 ma which is well within the specifications of all tube amplifiers in use today. This meter allows you to see the bias current and adjust for best possible sound. There is no need for complicated and messy wiring to make this work. This meter allows you to: - Check the actual working bias of the power tube of your power amp. - Match power tubes. This is especially good for all push pull amplifiers (if you have an amplifier with two tubes listed below then you most likely have a push/pull or Class A/B amplifier). This meter is specifically designed to be used for the following power output tubes: 6L6, 6V6, 5881, EL34, EL37, 6550, 7027, 5932, 6CA7, KT-66, KT-77, KT-88, 6F6, 6K6, 7184, 1622, 5871, 7581 and 7408. This is a safe bias meter that measures the cathode current from pin 8 of the power tube for bias reading (low voltage side of the tubes). The bias meter is very easy to use: NOTICE: Guitar amplifiers have very high voltages that can cause harm to you. These voltages can kill you. This bias meter is designed so you do not have to touch electronic parts but if your amplifier is open or the back has been removed you need to know what you are doing. If you have any doubts please take it to a trained service technician. Steps to check the bias of your amplifier : 1. Turn off and unplug your amplifier. 2. Remove the power tubes to be checked. If the amplifier has been used recently the output tubes will be HOT. Allow the amplifier to cool down prior to removing the tubes. 3. Insert bias meter probes into the tube sockets of the amplifier. 4. Insert the power output tubes into the bias probe sockets. 5. Turn on your power amp and let the tubes get warm (3-5 minutes) read the bias measurement. (As shown on the picture). 6. The both reading will appear at same time. The reading should be no more than 2 or 3 milliamps difference for a good balance between the tubes. At this time you can adjust the current level (using the amplifiers bias adjustment control) to the appropriate level. There are many charts online that will give you the proper range of current for your tubes. Do not exceed the maximum level on these charts or you will damage your tubes. If you see a red glow in your tubes turn the amplifier off immediately. One possible reason is the bias current is too high. 7. After you have completed checking the bias on your output tubes turn your amplifier off and allow it to cool down. Again, the tubes will be very HOT at this time. 8. Remove the bias probe sockets and re-insert the output tubes. 9. You are now ready to rock and roll! This procedure should not take more than 15-20 minutes read more
