Red Beryls from the Violet Claims in the Utah's Wah Wah Mts. are among the world's rarest and most spectacular gemstones. It has been said that only 60 pounds of rough has ever been cut into gems, throughout the 100 year existence. In a world w literally tons and tons of diamonds are discovered each and every year, the rarity of these single-source gems is only matched by their beauty. Weight: 3.12 carats Size: 10 mm x 7 mm x 6.5 mm From a purely technical standpoint, this is not a matrix specimen, as the "white" portion you see is in fact non-gem grade rhyolitically invaded beryl crystal, and when viewed from the bottom, the hexagonal shape is easy to see. But nonetheless, this fits the "ideal" of a matrix specimen in most people's minds, so that's how it's listed. The top half of the crystal (which is not rhyoltically invaded) is very gemmy, fully terminated and twinned in a most glorious manner (the little sibling is beautifully terminated as well). It's every bit as nice in hand as the pics indicate, and it's lines are sharp. Crystals like this are becoming hard to come by, and this would fit well into a custom gold setting hanging around someone's neck. Good luck, and no reserve.
