THE PRADA BOATS AP6.0 The Prada syndicate, representing the Yacht Club Punta Ala , Italy , was formed to enter the 2000 America 's Cup race. Team Prada's boat, Luna Rossa ITA 45 , won the Louis Vuitton cup and went on to face the defending (and ultimately victorious) New Zealand team. Immediately afterward, Team Prada issued a formal challenge for the 2003 race. The 2003 Prada syndicate employed about 100 people, 21 of them on the design, prediction, and testing team. Constant testing was key to the design process at Team Prada. For the boat to be competitive, the team chose lightweight composite materials for the hull, deck, internal structures, and outer appendages. TheOneWorld Challenge In May of 2000, the Seattle Yacht Club and telecommunications investor Craig McCaw launched the OneWorld Challenge campaign for the America 's Cup, to be held in Auckland New Zealand in 2003. Team OneWorld assembled a world-class team of designers, boat builders and sailors from around the globe, many of whom were already America 's Cup winners, Olympic medalists and world champions.
