are two charming cross-stitch samplers.The first has a ship motif and reads, "One ship sails east another west with the self same winds that blow. 'Tis the set o' the sails and not the gales which determines the way they go." This one measures 14 x 11.The second reads, "Fame is the scentless sunflower, with gaudy crown of gold, but friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold." T are two silhouettes stitched on the bottom and a floral motif above and below. The floral border of pink, blue, and yellow flowers and green leaves is particularly charming. This one measures 12 x 16.Both pieces have some water or other damage at the top edge. However, I have evaluated them carefully for framing and both could be framed so the damage does not show. Or, perhaps you are more knowledgeable than I about how to reverse this.The sentiments are sweet and from a time gone by!
