This auction is for two uniquely different original Civil War Era match safes. The first one is made of stamped brass and is shaped like a Civil War soldier's knapsack. The back of the knapsack opens for adding and removing matches. The second match safe is a brass tubular type with a patriotic eagle motif on one side. The lid opens for removing and adding matches. T is some denting to this match safe, but does not affect the mechanics or purpose of the match safe. It includes a strip of original Civil War matches. Both these styles of match safes can be found illustrated in Dr. Francis Lord's volumes on Civil War Collectiables. Please email me with any questions and please visit my other auctions of original Civil War items. Winning bidder pays exact postage.
