Upfor auction is a spectacular and vividly colored pair of vintage porcelain cockatoos made by master German Volkstedt/Thüringiamanufacturer Karl Ens. One bird is colored in rainbow hues of red, coral, rose, orange, turquoise, and deep blue. His companion is a gorgeous shade of deep emerald green accented with blue, salmon and yellow hues.
Thes e very special birds are simply a delight to behold. The friendly and intelligent expressions on their faces and incredible detailing in the feathers make them amazingly lifelike! Both cockatoos are in mint condition, with no known nicks, chips, cracks, or restorations. The coral bird is 11-1/2" (29cm) tall, 4-3/8" (11cm) wide, and 5" (13cm) deep. The green bird is 11" (28cm) tall, 4-3/8" (11cm) wide and 4-3/4" (12cm) deep. Both figurines bear the blue ENS windmill mark on their undersides, meaning they were produced between about 1950 and 1972. The Porzellanfabrik Karl Ens was founded in 1890 and existed until 1972. Later, the Ens line of figurines began to be produced again in Thüringia, Germany, using the old Ens factory molds. The Ens line of parrots and birds is absolutely breathtaking, and belongs in the top echelon of quality and beauty along with Meissen and Rosenthal. Please note that full shipping insurance is mandatory on this purchase, and this item will be shipped by Fedex ground - no USPS. The birds will be professionally packed and shipped to minimize the chance of breakage. This adds about $7.50 per bird to the shipping cost due to the fragility and care needed in packing. (This is already factored into the eBay shipping calculator.) I charge only what I am charged by the shipping store - I add no markup or handling charge on my end.
