Ziryab~ She holds the future..... Sculpted by Stacey Tumlinson ~UNPAINTED~ Rarely do we see sculptures created of pregnant mares, and even more difficult to capture is free spirit of the arabian breed during that burdensome time. To balance refinement with the large hope of expectation is difficult indeed. Ziryab is that balance. She is wild and proud at heart while her pregnancy has made her even more lovely and feminine. The desert winds whip her at her mane and tail, reminding us of the harsh landscape of her ancestors, and causing wonder that such beauty can come out of it. Since her release, Ziryab has captured the hearts of judges and showers alike. Many wondered how a such very pregnant mare would do in halter classes. The answer is unequivically: Excellent! Her pregnancy hasn't stopped her from becoming a Champion at home and abroad. This is sculpture is a special on many levels for me. It was my first sculpture of a mare and the first created almost entirely 'in the pasture'. She has a lot of personal meaning because she is a portrait of my own mare, RD Ravven Blkbird. Over 50 measurements were taken of Blkbird before I even began putting clay on the armature. When she was within 1 week of foaling (2005), I spent a couple days in the pasture sculpting just her big belly to get all the shapes just right. The circumference read more
