This M-1917A1 helmet retains it's original rough sawdust finish and has a nice patina. The leather liner and web chin strap are original and although they show signs of use, are in good condition. The helmet's unique features are the crudely painted (in black) Marine Corps Eagle Globe and Anchor and the Major General stars on the front. The stars are metal with screw backs (nuts inside, see photo), similar to the type found on vehicle license plates and are coated with a slury for camouflage purposes. No history on this helmet was available when obtained, but it has been in my collection for about 20 years. Has the initials "G H" marked on the leather liner. I don't collect Marine items any more so am letting this go. Hopefully the new owner can do some research. Reserve set to protect my investment.
