Incredible U.S. Military Academy (West Point) cadet's dress uniform hat. This hat came out of an estate in Eastern Michigan. It's about 6" wide, 12" tall (including the plume), 9" deep; the main part of the hat is about 7.5" in diameter. The plume is around 6.5" tall and the brass insignia on the front is about 4 x 4.5." The hat is unsized but I'd estimate around 7-8. The main part of the hat appears to be felt, the top is leather as is the brim. The plume appears to be wool, fitting into the top of the hat with a copper or brass tip. T is an insignia on the front, made of brass, with an eagle atop Mars' helmet with a sword (is this the emblem of the academy?), with an inscripton: "Duty, Honor, Country - West Point 1802 (in Roman numerals) USMA." T is a brass chain-link braid around the bill of the cap, which is leather, trimmed with brass edging. The braid links to two rivets on the sides with a repeat of the emblem and "Cadet USMA" on each rivet. T are also two brass ventilation holes in each side of the hat. Amazingly, the original leather chin strap is t which fits on the brass side rivets. T is leather webbing on the inside (it looks all original), and on the liner inside the hat is "Cadet Q.M. Dept. USMA." I can also make out the name "R. Price" inscribed on the under side of the bill, which must be the cadet's name. I would read more
