Up for auction is this super rare Uhl mug made for the number 7 spring at the West Baden Hotel. This area of Indiana was a hub of entertainment and a vacation hotspot as it were at the start of the 20th century. The springs at West Baden were considered by some as being clean, pure, even having healing capabilities The #7 spring was the most famous of the springs. It is the source of the so called "Sprudel Water". The #7 spring is supposedly the spring that the 1907 Chicago Cubs drank from before going on to win the world series (which prompted the 2011 Cubbies to request a supply of water from West Baden to sprinkle on there spring training field in an attempt to remove their 100+ years of bad luck!). This is the only one of these I have ever seen. I have seen it listed in an antique collectors guide and it said no picture available and it was listed as very rare. I have shown it to one collector who specializes in Uhl pottery, he said he's never seen one but does believe it is Uhl. This would make since considering Uhl was made early on in Evansville and later in Huntingburg both of which are relatively in close proximity to the West Baden/French Lick Indiana area.
