This two-part ukiyo-e book, known as a "kusazoshi" (or popular novel), is by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1864), who was also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III. It was printed around the 1850s or 1860s. This item is original, not a re-print or a reproduction. Utagawa Kunisada inherited his master's name to become Toyokuni III in 1844. This book is Volume 10 of at story titled "Shaka Hassou Yamato Bunko". The covers of these two parts form a single scene if placed side by side. These books are in fairly good condition, considering their age. T is no worming, and all the pages are fully intact, although they have softened somewhat, particularly at the lower outside corners. They remain quite bright, however. The bindings are complete. The color plates are still quite vivid and bright, and the blacks and whites of the monocromes are mostly strong and sharp. Artist: Utagawa Kunisada (Kunisada, Toyokuni III) Writer: Mentei Ouga Printer: (?) Part One: 12 pages (leafs), including back and front covers, consisting of a color print cover and monochrome illustrated text. Part Two: 12 pages (leafs), including back and front covers, consisting of a color print cover and monochrome illustrated text. Printed on mulberry (?) paper. Japanese thread binding.
