Most Limoges porcelain collectors just love the cobalt and gold items, and you can count us among them. But, the wine red was also a very expensive color to manufacture, and they are even more difficult to find than cobalt. In the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain" books by Mary Frank Gaston, we could find only one in each of the volumes we have. In the "Second Edition", t is one on page 85, plate 186 (it is now close to being this ornate). T is a game bird plate in the "Third Edition" on page 100, plate 201. Of these two examples, this plate is by far more attractive. We think you will agree that this plate is the ultimate, and our starting bid is a fraction of the 'book value' of a piece like this. This was manufactured in Limoges, France, by the Bawo & Dotter Company, who used the "Elite Works" mark. It is marked with the Bawo & Dotter mark #5, underglaze white ware mark in green, "Elite L France", ca. after 1900. It is also marked with the elaborate mark of an upscale department store, Higgins & Seiter, which was located in New York around the turn of the century. Authentic....we stress authentic! SIZE: 8 1/2" across. CONDITION: No chips, no cracks, no hairlines. Obviously meant to be a cabinet plate, and has spent it's life in a cabinet. We check very well, including black light inspection. This plate is excellent, t is a small amount of gold wear higher areas of the rim. Do not be mislead by fake Limoges items. They are often marked with a fleur-de-lis with "Limoges China" under it. Friends, the 'China' part is key....that means it was made in the country China, instead of France! Note: All our china items are genuine antiques. It is not unusual for antique porcelain to have ash specks (from wood-fired kilns), and these specks are not considered damage. Though it may need further cleaning, we do lightly clean our porcelain before listing to enable us to find any damage. Unless otherwise stated, the items we sell are old and most will show, in varying degrees, signs of their age.If you are new to collecting Limoges porcelain, we suggest you become familiar with the genuine articles by web sites and books that are available through most libraries. The fakes are everyw, and sometimes selling for more than the real items. We do not want you to be a victim of this deception. BID WITH CONFIDENCE: We have sold and safely shipped thousands of pieces of fine antique porcelain items on Ebay. Please see our feedback - over 95% of our sales are antique china. Please read carefully. We try to fully describe every item we sell, and always include pictures. If you have any questions, we gladly answer by e-mail. All fine china is double boxed; the package you receive will be larger than you anticipated. We pack to please. Double-boxing may cost a little more to ship, but very much helps protect your valued item. OUR TERMS: Some sellers have a big long list of terms.
