Ulysses S. Grant with President Abraham Lincoln Mourning Ribbons Original CARTE DE VISITE Original CDV, 2.5" x 4". This is a very nice albumen three-quarter length studio shot of U.S. Grant by F. Gutekunst of Philadelphia . On Grant's left arm are mourning ribbons for President Abraham Lincoln. This image was later reproduced by Whitehurst Gallery , Pennsylvania Ave., Washington , D.C. and attributed to photographer W. Snell. U.S. Grant needs no introduction; however, Gutekunst was an American photographer of Philadelphia (1831-1917). He was a favored photographer by the East Coast elite from Walt Whitman to General Grant. The CDV has no back-mark, and is in very good condition, as can be seen in the scans. This CDV is the real deal, not one of those modern, scammed fakes by one of the multitude of conmen out t who plague eBay and genuine dealers and collectors. Purchased several years ago from Medhurst & Co., one of the more reputable dealers around. You won't find this CDV, in this condition, for less than I am offering it (Medhurst has similar presently listed on his website in lesser condition for $150).
