We are pleased to be offering today one of the most beautiful French style bedroom suites dating from the 1940s that we have ever had. It was made by the Robert W Erwin Company out of Grand Rapids that was well known for their high quality stylish merchandise. Please take time to look at the numerous pictures and detailed description of this gorgeous set. It consists of a tall chest, ladies dressing vanity, two shapely wall mirrors, a full size bed and an unusual carved dresser. is the description of what the original factory had written on this bedroom suite:'' This impressive suite adapted from modern requirements from the earlier Louis XVI manner is a splendid example of transition from Baroque to classic. the amber beauty of diagonally satin wood combined with the deeper rosewood and colorful maple burl provide a golden tone which dominates the entire suite. too, is found lavish ornament, in the manner of the time. Parchment and gold striping are important in the decorative scheme; while opulant classic swags in metal adorn the corner posts of the bureau. Striped satinwood provides the principle wood for all the larger panels. The bureau top for instance, is of satinwood banded with rosewood and inlaid with a large pattern of maple burl. A rich panel of this beautiful reddish burl is set in front of the piece formulating a background for an oval medallion of match satinwood outlined by gold beading. A frenzy of natural maple richly carved extends just above the upper drawer. The curved cupboard drawers on either side are striped in ebony, forming an interesting diagonally motif. The classic atmosp extends to the brass pulls and is seen in the fluted and gilded legs that are carried throughout the suite. The mirrors are in perfect harmony and are carved maple, beaded and guilted, and outlined in parchment. A splendidly executed basket of flowers carved and finished in ivory surmounts the design on both mirrors. The dressing table is a charmingly graceful piece, unusually low to give full scope to the large mirror which is provided. The top is entirely of maple burl. Two three drawer pedestals with oval fronts are connected by a deeply recessed center section in which the usual drawer is replaced with a concave panel of satin woods displaying a typical French ribbon and wreath design carved in high relief and gilded. The bed promotes the impression of richness. The head board is of satinwood, bordered with rosewood and carrying a medallion of maple burl. The narrower proportions of the footboard accent the contrast of wood and decoration. The corner posts are gilded and fluted, supported by Acanthus leaves and topped by acorn finials. The tall chest or chiffonier carries out the same harmonious combination of woods and colors. '' It is truly a beautiful set with the overall dimensions of the bed being 57 inches wide, 55 inches high on the headboard and 29 inches high on the foot board. The inside dimensions are 54 inches wide by 75 inches long. It will easily accommodate a modern day mattress. The dresser that has dove tail drawers is 54.5 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 36 inches high. The mirror with the bevel edge cut it is 30 inches wide by 43 inches tall. The next item is the tall chest or chiffonier that is 38 inches wide, 23 inches deep and 54 inches high. The ladies dresser is 54 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep and 24.5 inches tall. The mirror that hangs above the ladies dresser is 28 inches wide by 44 inches tall. The condition of the looking glass on this mirror does show worn spots. Other than that the set is in outstanding condition. All of the brass trim is intact and all of the hardware is intact. It is just as clean on the inside as it is on the outside.
