A wonderfully detailed Uncle Sam whirligig by American folk artist kent gutzmer. It is 6 foot 3 1/2" inches to the top of the hat. Made from cedar, pine, leather and old tacks for buttons on his vest. The Uncle Sam detaches from the base for ease of shipping and moving. Two 6 inch 1/4 inch rods secure it to the base. It is signed and dated '06' by the artist. A very few of these were ever made this size. one in the last few years except this one. All are differant. kent's folkart has made its way into many collections over the past 21 years. His Uncle Sams are considered to be some of the best made. The pictures have a hard time doing this painted carving justice. The starting bid does not reflect an attempt at an inflated value. It is below retail. T are many hours involved in the carving and painting of these whirligigs. It would be fair to warn you that once you have one piece of kent's work, you will want another. I will gladly answer any questions or send you some more pics, no problem at all. Buyer to pay $27.00 UPS charge in the US. Non-US buyers must contact me for proper shipping charges.
