Up for bid we have a wonderful antique tintype in a union case. It is the "9th" size case. I measure the outside edges of the case at approximately 2 1/2 x 3 inches. The image on the case shows a civil war era ironclad ship - possibly the Monitor?. Part of another boat can be seen in the background on the left side. On the right side part of a fort is visible. The tintype on the inside is an image of a Civil War era woman. From the appearance of her dress and jewelry, she was probably rather "well-to-do". She is wearing a very fancy silk dress; she has a Victorian watch chain with slide at her waist; she has hair accessories and very large earrings. This tintype and case are in excellent condition. T is a very tiny bit of wear on the outside of the back. I have included photos of both the front and the back of the case so that you can see how little wear t is. The light spots and the tiny red spot on the tintype are reflections from lighting on the glass covering the tintype. The clasp on the case snaps tightly. The hinges are completely intact.
