This military button has 13 stars around the perimeter with a drum backed by crossed swords and single star on the face of the button. The back is unmarked. It is approx .5 inches in diameter. I have researched this Union Patriotic button and found it on page 188 of Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865 by Warren Tice .
