This is a nice clean vintage Oak machinist tool box or chest of drawers. It is marked "UNION STEEL CHEST CORPORATION LEROY N.Y." on the main body of the lock set that is attached to the lift top. It measures 20" x 13" x 8.5" outside dimensions. It has a good leather handle, four steel latches, one lock set, and steel corner braces. The hinges and all the hardware is in good clean condition. This is the nicest oak grain that I have seen on a Union chest in a number of years, very nice finish, nice clean appearance! Once more most Union chests I see are missing the drawer cover board, this one is in good solid condition. One thing I should point out is that the drawer cover simply fits into a slot on the bottom and two spring pins push down into two holes in the cover when the lid is down. The Gerstner (competition) has a guide sliding hinge, that attaches the lid to the box, the Union chest didn't use this method, so the cover can still be slid under the bottom drawer for storage, but there is no guide like on the Gerstner chests. This is often the reason the cover is missing I believe. Overall, this chest is much betther than most I've seen, with a very nice finish, all seven metal bottom drawers are solid and in good working condition, with good pulls. The green felt inside is in different conditions per drawer, but it was used as a machinist chest, so some shop dirt and stains are on the felt, though each has been vacuumed out. There is a mirror on the top inside, in good condition. There is some minor grain seperations in 3 places note, none have caused any strengh loss to the chest, two are around the spring pins, and one on the left front side of the chest. I do not have a key for the lock on this chest. There is a few small chips of wood off corners here and there, I would call minor, and most minor dings on the front and side of the chest with some deeper dings on the back of the chest are noted. Regardless of these signs of use, this is still a very nice tools chest overall.
