The model is custom painted with a hint of weathering over the air intakes. A well crafted Korean Ajin imported can motor powered model of this very large turbine engine that features two powered units. A gas turbine-electric locomotive (GTEL) uses a gas turbine to drive an electric generator (DC) or alternator (AC). The electric current thus produced is used to power traction motors. Thus a GTEL is very similar to a diesel-electric so that the turbines built by GE used many of the same parts as their diesels. This type of locomotive was first experimented with in 1920 but reached its peak in the 1950s to 1960s. From 1958-1961, General Electric delivered 30 8500 HP Units to the Union Pacific and assigned to the roster as 1 through 30.
