Treadle Sewing Machine

Patented in 1879

Manufactured by Providence Tool and Die ** Providence RI

(who also manufactured machines for Singer!)

When my father-in-law died, the family homestead was sold, and we found many unexpected treasures in the attic. This was one -- the family sewing machine for many years, until moved to the attic in the 1920's. I believe it will still work -- the needle goes up and down when the wheel is cranked, and the foot treadle moves up and down. (T's nothing connecting the two to know for sure.) Once cleaned up, it looks to be in very good condition. I didn't touch the contents of the drawers -- which are full of parts for the machine, I believe, and even an instruction book. (Also you'll find some old buttons, lace, hooks and eyes, and assorted sewing miscellanea.) The drawers pull out nicely, and are undamaged. The only damage is pictured -- the peeling on the top near the hinge of the extension table. T are some signs of age, of course, the decals on the machine are not perfect, and t's some spotting to the wood. Check out this website for more information on this historical find!!! I believe this is a Style 4 1/2.

I prefer if you pick up your machine, however, I am agreeable to other arrangements, but will not be responsible for shipping costs or shipping damage. If you want your machine shipped, you must handle all the arrangements and cost. I cannot pack for shipping. (Keep in mind this is one heavy awkward item to ship. Greyhound shipping is an option, but the machine would have to be taken apart. Another option is /index.html , but I have no idea what they charge.) I will work with you whatever you decide.

UPDATE: If my feedback quantity is lower than you would like to see, please do an Advanced Search, as Seller put my other eBay id "beebookish", and you will see I have excellent feedback as an eBay book seller. I simply like to use a different id for non-book items, and haven't sold as many. Obviously, selling books is different from selling "stuff" but my excellent customer service is the same! Thank you.

***UPDATE : I give up trying to add a picture of the serial number to this listing -- because I already have 12 pictures, I can't, and can't figure out how to delete a picture to replace it. If anyone would like me to email you this picture, I would be glad to. Please send me a message through the Ebay message system, and I will respond. Happy Bidding! Today's the day you could be a winner!
