The Assembly Of The Most Holy Mother Of God" (10th c.)

This is a lovely Russian Orthodox church prayer Icon from Ukraine. This stunning multi-character Icon comes from the lovely St Sophia Cathedral in KIEV ! This type, entitled the "The Assembly of the Most Holy Mother of God " which is sometimes called "What Shall We Bring You?"-- the latter title taken from the Christmas Vespers of the same name. It describes how the Angels in Heaven offer a Hymn, the Magi brings gifts, the Shepherds offer amazement, the earth gives its cave, the wilderness gives a Manger, and mankind offers Christ the Virgin Mother. Mary is shown seated on the throne of heaven holding the Christ Child. A crowd of singers, including St John of Damascus gathers below. All of the prayer Icons we select from the church are made of dark stained WOOD! (NOT thin cardboard. Compare with others you may see--They will not warp or bend!) This is a very unique Icon for display in the home-- It measures 7" x 8 1/2" x 1". T are brilliant gold metallic highlights throughout the image.
