The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ" (12th c.) This is a lovely Russian Orthodox church prayer Icon from Ukraine. This stunning multi-character Icon comes from the lovely St Sophia Cathedral in KIEV ! This type, entitled the "The Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ ". Mary and the newborn Christ lie in a manger(cave). The three Magi are approaching as Angels look on in Holy Adoration. The midwife Zelomi is preparing to wash the newborn child, and Joseph is shown being tempted by the Devil in disguise. A very unusal multi-character Icon--It would make a lovely gift for the coming Christmas season! All of the prayer Icons we select from the church are made of dark stained WOOD! (NOT thin cardboard. Compare with others you may see--They will not warp or bend!) This is a very unique Icon for display in the home-- It measures 7" x 8 1/2" x 1".
