COLLECTED: 2006/07 YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK CALIFORNIA USA STONES EMULATING MOUNT FUJI, THE MOST SACRED AND FAMOUS MOUNTAIN IN JAPAN, ARE HARD TO SOURCE AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER. SUISEKI-Brief Description Suiseki is the Japanese traditional pastime of collecting stones and rock formations to display in the home or garden. Although the practice like Bonsai keeping is said to originate in China, the Japanese have been the most prolific in its development as an art form. The term Suiseki in Japanese means literally Sui "Water" and Seki "Stone". Suiseki are usually small, naturally formed, rough, or river polished stones. Larger examples have become popular too. They are admired for their individual beauty and for their power to emulate far larger rock formations in nature. Stones are traditionally exhibited on a carved wooden base called “daiza”. Suiseki are often accompanied by Bonsai. These stones are displayed, usually in doors, along with Bonsai to complete a vision of a far off mountain in the background. They are usually lightly oiled to enhance their beauty. Please see the photos as they form part of the description. You are bidding on actual Suseki shown. For shipping ease and picture clarity, the stone is shown not oiled, but has been in the past.
