UNITED STATES NAVY ANCHOR'S AWEIGH Echoing down through the decades, "Anchor's Aweigh" has been sung with pride by countless generations of Navy sailors. The spirited anthem was created by Naval Academy Bandleader, Lt. Charles Zimmerman in 1906 to honor the graduating class of 1907. Since that time, it has served to strengthen the bond between all those who serve as members of the world's most powerful maritime force. Reverberating with references to Navy life, the song conjures up vivid images of proud Navy sailors performing their shipboard duties in defense of America. This coin commemorates the creation of "Anchor's Aweigh" and pays tribute to a century-old Navy tradition. Rendered in exceptional detail on the obverse are Naval Academy Bandleader Lt. Charles A. Zimmerman and Alfred Hart Miles, who composed the lyrics for the song as a Midshipman First Class at the Naval Academy. A laurel wreath frames the image of the two men. The reverse bears the seal of the U.S. Navy. Struck in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze, this coin is accented in traditional Navy and gold enamel. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the origin of "Anchor's Aweigh." 1-3/4" MILITARY COIN GREAT FOR ANY COLLECTOR!!!
