UNSIGNED RS PRUSSIA PORCELAIN PORTRAIT VASE STERLING SILVER ENGLISH HALLMARKED RIMThis is a beautiful and unusual piece of RS Prussia. How many RS Prussia vases have you seen with a sterling silver rim? The vase features a "Gibson Girl" transfer portrait on a dark brown back ground and an English hallmarked sterling silver rim. I would imagine the vase was not signed by the Schlegelmilch factory making this piece due to the fact that it was exported to England rather than the US.I am basing my attribution of RS Prussia for this vase on two facts. One, the identical size and shape vase is shown as Plate # 434 on page 140 in the book The Collectors Encyclopedia of R. S. Prussia: Fourth Series by Mary Frank Gaston. The author says this is a "salesman's sample". The second fact is I saw the identical "Gibson Girl" transfer portrait pictured on a signed Prussia plate that was for sale on the internet at the following website: /products-page/antiques/page/10/The hallmarks (Lion Passant for .925 sterling silver, Leopard's Head for London and lower case "r" for 1912-13) on the sterling rim indicate a date of 1912-13 for London, England. There is also a maker's mark of "H & S" on the rim but I could not find this mark listed in the book I consulted: The Book of Old Silver: English American Foreign by Seymour B.
