Rare! Untouched Orgininal Early WWII Japanese Helmet Up for your consideration is a very Rare! Early WW-II Original Untouched Japanese Helmet. To find a early war helmet in this untouched original condition is a rarity by itself. I would date this helmet in the period of 1938-1942, the early years of the War. Below you will find detail description of this helmet. The auction includes the Helmet, Star, Chinstrap, and Early, fine leather liner, (sorry the helmet stand is not included) HELMET: This helmet is as o riginal as you can get and is completely untouched!. This helmet retains approx. 85% of its original mustard-brown paint typical of Japanese helmets. It is stamped with the symbol of a "Diamond S " for the Kobe Seiko Steel Works on the rear inner rim of the helmet. Also stamped at this location into the helmet is the Kanji mark designating this a Small size helmet along with a hand painted white Kanji Size Mark. There are no dents, dings or holes in this helmet. On the inside front rim of the hel met You can see where the soldier had begun to scratch his name, and/or some words and symbols into the helmet. The liner of this helmet is held with the original rivet pins that have the early Dome Heads on them. Later in the war the rivet pin heads were changed to being Flat instead of domed. STAR: Original Star and is Original to the Helmet CHINSTRAP: The chinstrap is the Original chinstrap with this helmet. It bears a few Stains which appear to be possibly Blood Stains. (see pictures), It is original and complete EARLY 3 PIECE FINE LEATHER LINER : This helmet as you will notice in the pictures has the EARLY, Fine leather made Liner that was used during the early years of the Japanese Military. The original liner for these helmets was designed to be three leather sections, which were individually attached to the shell by a pair of rivets and held together by a canvas drawstring. As leather did not fare well in the tropical climates attempts were made to introduce other materials and often soldiers had to improvise while in the field. This was done by using bits of canvas or cloth to replace a rotted out leather liner. Still because of the sheer number of helmets produced throughout the war it is rare to find a nice original with the this three piece leather intact. As the war progress and demand was made, the Japanese military also had to sacrifice materials used in their liners and resorted to using pig skin single and/or 2 piece liners. The liner is complete with all pillows and pillow pockets, with Japanese Markings on one of the pillow pockets (See Picture) One end of the tie straps that secure the pillows into the pocket has come loose from one end, BUT is intact and tied with the other half of the tie strap. The helmet measures 10 7/8 " in length and 9-3/16" in width. This helmet will make a great addition to your collection, Don't miss out on this rare helmet.
