An exquisite piece! A very beautiful and rare 19th century antique Lanna period Buddha statue In Lanna style Buddha images give an impression of strength virility with a calm reassuring presence.This statue depicts the Lord Buddha as he meditates on purity and enlightenment. Statue description: A beautiful antique Lanna Buddha with elements of Sukhothai Style. reminiscent of early Siam (Modernd day Thailand) Buddha is sitting with one leg folded over the other in the " touching earth" pose . He is deep in mediatition, and embodies the Ancient Buddhist ideals of peace, blessing and serenity. Buddha's f ace is very pleasing in deep mediatation with the eyes cast downward. Buddha's face has a serene and peacful expression. The head adorned with peppercorn curls. This piece has elements of Sukhothi style with a finialin the center of the head. The elongated ears lobes indicate knowledge anmd wisdom. The earlobes curve slightly outwards w they touch the shoulders. The torso is slim but radiates strength. The garment is simple and unadorned draped over the shoulder. This is a extraordinary piece! Historical Refernce: Thailand, the Lanna kingdom (Land of a Million Fields) was established by King Mengrai in northern Thailand in 1296. The Lanna Kingdom located in Northern Thailand (Chinag Mai area) Pure Lanna art developed when the kingdom was independent. Lanna came under Burmese rule and later under Thai rule. A great center piece to any antique collection or display of Asian Art. Statue Details: This statue has very complex patina of Green, Dark and Light brown. T appears to be a green lacquer.
