ITEM: A different and very pretty earthenware teapot in soft majolica glazes moulded in the form of a nest with leaves and flowers entwined around with a colourful and proud little bird sitting on the nest and forming the lid. MAKER: Unidentifiable and marked only with a blue painted number. DATE: Mid 19th century. CONDITION: Overall and aesthetically very good without cracks or restoration. T is a thin sliver of ceramic missing to the inner rim of the pot and the inside rim of the lid has a very small nick (photos), neither obviously seen when the lid is in place. The glaze has age related crazing throughout, this is quite heavy in places although not obvious or unsightly for display and is absorbed within the pattern and mouldings (photo), it can be seen clearly to the inside (photo) and is normal and often apparent on antique majolica wares. DIMENSIONS: 9 ins spout to handle by 5½ ins and standing 4¾ ins high. A charming and highly decorative antique teapot and another fun example of the diversity of the majolica wares produced in the 19th century...
