This is a unique hand made dagger or theater-made fighting knife. The knife actually looks to have been modelled off of some type of trench knife. The knife is very solid and while not the prettiest of knives, it was well made and built for hard use. It has that "all business" look to it. The thick carbon steel blade was hand shaped and looks to have been done with a file. t are some light grind marks along the edge and these are no doubt a much more recent sharpening attempt. The integrity of the blade is exceelnt with just some scattered light pitting. The steel actually could have had some of this prior to its use as a blade. The blade's tang goes all the way through the handle and is peened over the butt plate. The guard was formed from a solid piece of brass and is completely tight and very solid. The guard is backed by a thick brass sleeve that may actually be solid, as I really can't tell. The handle looks to be of oak and is free of any cracks or chips. it is a very dense and very heavy wood. The butt plate is also of brass and is pinned and screwed into place. it's also completely tight and very solid. The entire knife is exceptionally solid and sturdy. T's not a rattle or wiggle anyw and it just has that 'solid-as-a-rock" feel to it. Despite its rather 'amatuer" look, the knife is actually well balanced and has an excellent feel. If it was indeed designed as a theater or fighting knife, I would have to assume that it was highly effective . The blade is 5-5/8" and the knife measures 9-13/16" in overall length. T is no sheath or scabbard with this knife. An interesting an unusual piece that's just full of character!!
