Up for auction is an antique toggle of some sort. I am uncertain as to its original use but it is a noteworthy piece comprised of 9 very old Peking Glass (what I believe to be PG) beads, 3 Chinese coins and a long double tassel (in need of a 'combing' or ironing) one side of which has a mercury glass bead before the woven metallic binding that bands the top of the tassel - so a total of 10 beads on this piece. Above the tassel t is an intricate endless knot...a symbol of auspiciousness. The coins and beads are threaded and knotted onto a finely woven cording that is colored an agreeable and unfaded orange which matches the color of the tassels which I think are made of twisted silk. This piece if left in its as found form would be a nice bobbled/baubled strand utilized as a lamp or window shade pull or attached to a key that is used to open a chest or cabinet. I can visualize this piece at a meditation table marking a page in your prayer book or perhaps looped around a close by draw or doorknob. My guess, based on the glass, old coins and tie techniques that it is of Chinese origin with an age of 60 to 70 years old or better. A really pretty piece (even if it is to be parted out just for its components) which consists of: 3 round cobalt blue colored beads 2 of which are translucent and measure 10mm and 12mm and one that is opaque and is 25mm in diameter; a pair of 10mm diameter opaque lilac pink beads; a pair of 10 mm diameter opaque jade green beads, a large round translucent amber colored bead that's about 25mm in diameter; and the remarkable aqua bead that is a flattened pillow shaped one...this is the largest bead that I have seen in this color. It measures 50 mm wide (side to side) x 45mm tall (top to bottom) x 8mm thick (front to back) or about 2" x 1 5/8" x 3/8". The overall length of the strand is 15" and it weighs 3.8 ounces on a digital scale prior t packing. I purchased this second-hand from a vintage wares dealer in Oakland and have no specific history on it - it's just a beautiful old glass object. Please see photos for your take on age, design and condition. The Peking Glass is in wonderful vintage to antique condition as is, uncleaned, with only one small open air bubble at the surface on one bead, nothing gross. An uncommon find - refreshing and fabulous, any interest? Shipping for U.S. Buyers is $4.55 which includes Insurance and Delivery Confirmation services.
