Unusual Chinese Jade Carving Scholar on Raft 17/18th C.
This early Chinese jade carving of a scholar and deer on a raft is circa 17th to 18th century. It is an unusual subject, with detailed carving to the beard and flowing robe of the scholar. The raft is formed from a tree trunk with branches overhead. T is a bat perched on the trunk of the tree. The color of the stone is pale celadon with white inclusions, and few small dark inclusions. Nice old polish to the jade. Includes a finely carved wood stand in the form of leaves or waves. Condition is good, with possible small loss to tail of deer.

Measurements: (jade only) 4 1/2", 11.4cm L x 1 1/2", 3.8cm H.
