WE'RE CALLING THIS ARTS AND CRAFTS COPPER VASE OUR QUEEN VICTORIA SIX PENNY PIECE Description 20TH CENTURY COLLECTABLES - TOMORROW'S ANTIQUES AT TODAY'S PRICES A HANDSOME ARTS AND CRAFTS TALL COPPER VASE DECORATED WITH QUEEN VICTORIA PENNIES DATE: c.1900 but could be slightly earlier or later We have not seen a vase like this before...have you? It is clearly a hand-made copper vase of some age which has been decorated with what appear to be six pennies from the reign of Queen Victoria, which have been moulded to bond with the curved sides of the vase We thought it might be Trench Art at first but we so no indication that it has been fashioned from a shell case or something like that, but we could be wrong. It simply seems to be a well-crafted copper vase (maybe for spills) and the maker had the bright idea of decorating it with old copper pennies. All the coins show the face of Queen Victoria with the inscription "VICTORIA. DEI.GRA.BRITT.REGINA.FID.DEF.IND.IMP". None shows the reverse side which helpfully would have included a date. Details: The bowl stands nearly 9.5in/24cm tall with a diameter across its mouth of 2.75in/7cm. This is a heavy piece of vintage copper although we suspect it is weighted at its base...hence a weight of 1400g. There is no maker's mark anywhere on the vase or anything else to offer a clue to its read more
