This auction is for an unusual hands Navajo/Pueblo petite squash blossom. It has great patina and is an early piece, pre WW2. The length of the piece is 16 inches. The naja or center is one and five eights by one and and eight. The eight hand squashes are three quarter of an inch by one half of an inch. Many "short" squashes are called "child squashes" by sellers. In reality many time beads where lost by the string or chains breaking and the squashes are short. But in this piece the whole size of the piece is petite. It can be worn by a woman, and is stunning on. The use of the words pawn and museum quality I do not marked any piece as pawn or museum quality unless I have proof if this. I have sold many pieces on Ebay just to have them resold as pawn. The term pawn, when it adds value to a piece is a piece that was made for Indian use only and is generally pre WW2. There is little of this material around. And it is old so it doesnt generally need the word pawn in front of it to make it more valuable. The dealers who sell this type of material generally do not mark it as pawn but point out the attributes that make the piece old. There is modern pawn which comes from pawn shops, which can be very good pieces. But being modern pawn does not add value to a piece and it is generally not just made for Indian use. In my opinion the best dealers do not use the word pawn or museum quality unless they have proof of this or they are modern pawn shops selling pieces that have pawned. However, again unless it is old pawn ( pre WW2) it does not add value to a piece to mark it as pawn. Pieces with written documentation that they where in a museum may be more valuable if the museum had good pieces. According to the Federal Indian Act that covers Indian handmade pieces. I have the expertise to know what is Indian and what is not. Most pieces made before the fifties where not marked as to maker and many not to silver content. I have had one piece returned out of hundreds because it was not Indian. I am a blooded Indian and Ebay's rule that you must name the maker of the piece if you list it after 1935 is not what the law states. It states that you knowingly cannot sell pieces that are not Indian as Indian and that you must use your resources to make sure what you state is true. I am the daughter of a dutch diamond merchant ( now deceased) who ended up in Michigan during WW2 to cut industrial diamonds for cutting steel for war heads and a beautiful Cherokee woman (Catherine Robinson whose mother was Mildred Porter who is listed on the Cherokee rolls) who went to Michigan from Oklahoma to help in the war movement. My mom became secretary to one of the "one dollar men" captains of industry who where devoting there time to do the business side of the war. Thus, my passion for Indian jewelry.I ask that I generally mail as soon as the item is paid for. However, it is coming from Central Maine and it generally takes a little longer. All items are tracked and insured. If you buy more than one item and I can fit it into one mail box there is only one mailing charge. I will pay for the difference in insurance etc..
