UNUSUAL ADVANCED CHOPPING TOOL DESCRIPTION : Typology : UNUSUAL example of an ADVANCED CHOPPING TOOL (in reference: "La dénomination des objets de pierre taillée." by MICHEL BREZILLON, C.N.R.S. 1977). Cutting : This piece was created using a flint pebble. Large flakes were cut to create the cutting edge (those might have been retouched into implements themselves...) and a point, which clearly presents finer retouches (red line), and evidence of useware (black line). The rest of the tool is still covered with the cortex. Dating, hominid : This implement belonged to the Early Acheulean Culture (Lower Paleolithic period, circa 700 000 years ago), and was conceived by Homo HEIDELBERGENSIS (ERECTUS). Origin : This tool was found in the Grand-Pressigny area. It was discovered in the Creuse's ancient riverbed, w its flint was polished in the turmoils of the sands and waters. A heavy patina embellishes this RARE CHOPPING TOOLfrom the LOWER PALEOLITHIC. Well preserved, no modern damage. ...
