This plane is a lot different than any I`ve seen. Any imput on what it is would certainly be appreciated. It is stamped on he handle with what I believe is C.S.J. & Co. I`m seeing the same mark under the japanning under the rear tote but I can`t quite make it out either. I`m also seeing what I believe to be a number 33 stamped in the bed beneath the adjusting lever. I believe it to be a rabbet plane of sort but I`m not certain. It measeures just over 8 1/4" long and is a little better than 2" wide. The front portion of the sole is ajustable by loosening the front knob. It does not have a conventional frog assembly. I`m not even gonna try to explain it. Hopefully the photos will tell the story. It has a Stanley iron. The iron is in good shape with a few tiny knicks on the cutting edge. I`m seeing a patent date of Aug. 14 , 06 under the small plate that the cap screw tightens against. Condition wise it is very good. It maintains most of its japanning. The front knob is very nice. The rear tote shows some bruises but is solid without any cracks or breaks. T is a composition type gasket under the rear tote. This gasket is pretty much shot. The cap iron was plated and half the plating is worn off but it still shows well. The sole / bed looks good. No cracks breaks or chips. T are a couple of spots of very light surface rust that I`m certain will clean without pitting. That`s about all I can tell you. If you`d like more info. or photos please don`t hesitate to ask. Thanks for looking ! Note ! Since listing this plane , I`ve learned that this is a Chaplin`s Patent Plane. I believe the 33 stamped into the bed is the model number. I`m still not certain if its considered a rabbet plane or not.
