Offered for your consideration is a scarce vintage RH-10S "Skinmaster" hunting knife from Calmont Cutlery. This knife was originally purchased at the L.L. Bean factory store in Maine. These knives were not around for long and are very difficult to find today. The design was patented in 1985 and most of the Calmont knives were purchased in the mid 1980's. As near as I've been able to determine, the design seems to have been sold to a couple different companies and basically disappeared by the late 1990's. I believe they may have even been sold by Blackjack for a short period or time while Blackjack was located in Effingham, Illinois. The Calmont knives were of excellent quality and were quite expensive. It seems as though the later companies that had the design tried to cut production costs and compromised quality. The design is really unique and the knife is ideally suited for field dressing game. It's also well-suited for many common applications requiring precise bladework and/or blade caution. The design features a retractable point protector that allows the blade to function as a gutting blade as well. The point protector covers the point to prevent puncture of internal organs during field dressing applications. It can also be used as a safety belt cutter or in any applications requiring a sharp blade, but prone to damage or unintended consequences from the tip. The knife looks as though it was used maybe one time. It's about as nice as you'll ever see in a used example and is completely problem free. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. The knife comes in its original box with all paperwork. It includes a field dressing guide, the story of the Skinmaster knives, and an instruction guide. The knife was made in Seki, Japan and is of exceptional quality. It's fully representative of the fine quality and craftsmanship that Seki has come to be known for and it shows excellent fit & finish. The thick blade was precisely ground and has a bright satin finish. The blade was ground with a wickedly sharp sawback that's ideal for tough field dressing duties. The retractable point protector folds smoothly into the handle when not in use and stows tightly. It features a nail nick for easy deployment and a generous section of deeply milled ridges on the underside for a thumb rest. The handle is of a composite resin that's very "grippy" and has a soft feel. It offers a firm, comfortable grip wet or dry. The handle is lightly textured and has molded thumb ridges at the top front. The handle is removable for easy cleaning, accomplished by simply removing two slotted screws. The handle also features a lanyard hole that was molded into the rear.The knife has an excellent all-around feel and offers excellent blade control.The blade 2-1/4", while the knife measures 6" overall. The sheath is the original and remains in perfect condition as well. It was crafted from tough Cordura sewn over a leather frame. The belt loop is of suede.A superb, original example of this unique and scarce knife!The knife will be shipped insured which is included in the shipping costs.
