Offered for your consideration is an unusual vintage Dha type sword with its original scabbard. This style was common to several regions of southeast Asia, although many that I've seen were attributed to Burma (Myanmar). It could have originated in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, or even Vietnam as a war bring-back. The sword was solidly built and has a great look. It was handmade and does have some markings, although I'm not sure what they mean...if anything. Many similar swords were sold as tourist or souvenir pieces, although this example appears to be a traditional piece that was designed for use. It's a solid, no-nonsense sword that was designed to be used. A really unusual feature is a small piece of brass or other gold-toned metal that appears to have been forged into the blade spine for some reason. This appears right between two series of markings on the spine a few inches forward of the handle. The sword does not appear to have seen much use at all and is problem free. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. The sword looks to be of the traditional dha-type design from this region. The blade appears to be hand forged and is of thick carbon steel. It's exceptionally thick just forward of the guard and measures just over 5/15" thick. The blade looks to have been hand shaped and is free of any corrosion or pitting. read more
