This appears to be a WWII era knife that had the handle replaced long ago. Western's roots can be traced back to Case. Harvey Platts married into the Case family and in 1911 he moved to Boulder, Colorado to start his own cutlery company. Western made knives of outstanding quality and quickly became one of America's classic brands. This example would have been made in their Colorado factory long before the Coleman and Camillus eras. I'm not sure what model this is. It has a long, wide fuller similar to Marble's "Ideal" models. The knife has seen moderate use and remains very solid. The blade has not been buffed or polished and the surfaces remain original. The knife was solidly built and it's very sturdy. The carbon steel blade is free of significant corrosion or pitting with just some fine surface peppering as shown. It was crisply ground and shows clean lines. read more
