Zippeite - UranopiliteGrants, Valencia Co., New Mexico1.7 x 1.9 centimeters An excellent specimen of this classic Uranium Ore from Grants, New Mexico-- the town that once called itself the Uranium Capitol of the World! This specimen hosts bright yellow crystals nicely contrasted by the jet black matrix. These specimens have historically been called Zippeite, but evidence has surfaced that suggests it might instead be the less common species Uranopilite. Either way, it is a classic and showy thumbnail displaying above average crystallization. Uranium and thorium bearing minerals are a fascinating subset of the mineralogical world, and when treated with proper respect can form a rewarding aspect of one's collection. Like a poisonous insect or flower, Uranium minerals are often possessed of bright colors and exotic form, making them among the most beautiful of all mineral species, and make for great conversation with noncollectors. Perfectly legal to buy, sell, and possess. T are several excellent articles on safe care and handling of radioactive minerals available on the internet. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome back to Ebay. This week I'm listing over 10 items from the great state of Arizona, including specimens from Tiger, Tombstone, Bisbee, Ray, and Christmas in addition to my regular assortment of radioactives and rarities.
