Up for auction is a US 7th Cavalry Dress Helmet made by Horstmann. The item is 100% authentic and has been in our family for over 100 years. It is dated March 4, 1899 on the inside headband (we could not properly take a picture of this, but promise that it reads this). My father and I took this same helmet to multiple gun shows in the Kansas City area for the past few years. We received bids up to 700 hundred dollars but at the time we wanted more. Our opening bid for this highly authenticated item is very low at $750.00 as the helmet has been appraised at over $1,000.00. It has all the brass and the original horse hair plume is intact and tightly affixed to the "ornate brass pedestal". Near perfect condition. You must really see this item to really appreciate it. The pedestal stands 5 inches above the helmet and the horse hair plume is roughly 14inches long. The brass eagle symbol on the front of the helmet has a "7" on his stomach (depicting "7th Cavalry"). And the eagle has a ribbon in its mouth that says "E Pluribus Unum". The eagle has two crossed sabers behind the shield on the front which contains the aforementioned "7". The eagle is holding a stalk of wheat and three arrows in his talons. Still has the original "gold" dress cord attached to the helmet which shows no signs of fray or tear. Both medallions are on the side read more
