The Phoenix program was a controversial program undertaken by the governments of the United States and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. It was actually a set of programs that sought to attack and destroy the political infrastructure of the Lao Dong Party ,better known as the Viet Cong, in South Vietnam. Intelligence gatd by the CIA led to the creation of lists of known VC operatives. Once the name, rank, and location of each individual VC member became known, CIA paramilitary or South Vietnamese police field forces captured and interrogated these individuals for further intelligence on the communist structure and its operations. The lists were sent to various Phoenix field forces, which included the Vietnamese National Police Field Force , US Navy Seal teams , US Army special operations groups, and Provincial Reconnaissance Units . Vietnamese National Police Field Force troops wore a distinctive camouflage uniform, reminiscent of the "autumn clouds" camo on the reverse side of US Mitchell pattern helmet covers. We have included a photo of NPFF troops interrogating a VC suspect, wearing this type of camo.This Vietnamese National Police Field Force uniform is in very good condition, with original name tape , 406 National Police District Patch.
