The US Army introduced the M1 series of gas masks in the late 1930s and they served in all theatres up until 1944. Some of the early gas masks, like this one, were then reconditioned for training. The M1A2 mask was the first to feature a one-size-fits-all "Universal" sizing system. This mask is absolutely mint, never worn, still bound in factory string ,and carried in a bright golden khaki M1VA1 carrying bag, also mint, aside from some very slight storage wear. The bag is complete with waist and shoulder straps, and inside straps holding a mint small gray tube holding the original lens wipes, which are rarely encountered today. The mask itself is dated April of 1942, produced by the famous General Tire & Rubber Co., and lacks only the filtration cannister, although it is complete with the cannister attachment tube. Packed in the original cardboard box, a rare complete ensemble.
