This auction consists of a World War II helmet and helmet liner issued to a service member of the U.S. Army 796th Military Police Battalion. The steel helmet is painted inside and outside with dull Olive Drab paint. It has a two inch five pointed white star on each side of the helmet and has a set of Military Police Crossed Pistols insignias superimposed over each star. It has the name of the solider CPL Eckert stencilled in white letters on the back of the helmet and coporal chevrons, "MP" and "796" on the front. The helmet is covered with camouflage netting approximately 5/8 X 1 inch braided mesh. The netting is tightly fitted to the outer surface of the helmet, wrapped around the edges and secured on the underside by what appears to be a brown hard adhesive material. The helmet has an adjustable 3/4" cloth chin strap with metal buckles. The straps shows signs of wear along the edges, but are in good condition. The inside of the helmet is clean, t are a few scratches but overall condition is very good. The narrow metal rim band of the helmet is joined at the front. T are no manufacturers or date markings on the steel helmet. The helmet liner is painted on the outside outside with dull Olive Drab paint.
