US Defense Meritorious Service Medal Set The United States Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal was created on 3 November 1977 as a peacetime award for noncombat meritorious service or achievement of a lesser degree than that required for award of the Defense Superior Service Medal. The recipient must be an active duty member of the Armed Forces assigned to a qualifying joint activity or on temporary duty for at least 60 days.Offered is a complete cased set with a currently manufactured full size medal, ribbon bar and lapel pin in the dark blue presentation case, embossed with "United States of America" on the cover.
